Evaluation of the European Union strategy for the protection and welfare of animals

Cerebrus Associates is working with ICF to deliver an evaluation of the EU animal welfare strategy (2012-15).

The public consultation launched in the context of the evaluation aims to:

  • collect the views of individuals and organisations who would not be approached through other consultation means in the course of the study to the support the evaluation process;
  • provide all interested parties with the opportunity to share opinions and information on the matters to be addressed in this evaluation.

Background

  • In 2012, the Commission adopted the EU strategy for the protection and welfare of animals 2012-2015, which defined a number of priorities and actions aimed at improving the welfare of animals. They were completed in 2018.
  • In 2019, following a recommendation from the European Court of Auditors, the Commission launched an evaluation of the EU Animal Welfare Strategy.
  • This evaluation aims to assess the extent to which the Strategy delivered against its objectives and the extent to which those are relevant and coherent today.
  • The evaluation will inform any future EU initiatives on animal welfare.

 

Target audience

All targeted stakeholders are invited to give their feedback during the 12-week consultation period.

  • Competent authorities responsible for animal welfare;
  • Business and professional organisations;
  • EU citizens and consumers and organisation;
  • Organisations from the civil society;
  • Independent experts from academic and research institutes;
  • European bodies, including the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA);
  • International intergovernmental organisations active on animal welfare;
  • Third countries;
  • Other relevant bodies.

 

Why we are consulting?
